Wow, what a weekend to end the season! For the Friday practice, the weather cooperated a little giving us a nice sunny day with temperatures around 10 degrees. When we arrived at the track on Saturday morning, the temperature was a chilly 2 degrees. Since we were there anyways, we all thought, what the heck, let's race. As the day progressed, we hit a high of 4 degrees and racing was a tad sketchy. With warmers on our tires and a small heater in our trailer, we were good to go. Lap times were a little slower for most of us as the cold asphalt cooled our tires and made pushing to the limit a little shetchy, but we were all surprised as how fast we could still go on stone cold tires. Racing in the cold is not pleasent or easy, but we still had a lot of fun, that is, unti Sunday when the heavy rain started. Rain changes everything. Only Craig and Tanner wanted to freeze and get soaked while tearing around the track. And that's how the season ended, a great team, wet and cold with big grins on our faces. See ya next year!
Craig #60

Saturday - Dry, low temperatures, 4 degrees
Amateur Heavyweight - 5th out of a field of 21 with a best time of 1:22.99
Amateur Middleweight - 3rd out of a field of 22 with a best time of 1:23.86
Middleweight Superbike - 7th out of a field of 16 with a best time of 1:23.78
Sunday - Rain, low temperature, 6 degrees
Amateur Heavyweight - 7th of a field of 17 with a best time of 1:48.95 (rain)
Amateur Middleweight - 8th out of a field of 17 with a best time of 1:50.05 (rain)
Craig ran some impressive times Saturday on cold asphalt gettting into the 1:22's and finishing 3rd in the Amateur Middleweight race. Sunday in the rain, he struggled with presures and traction finishing well back of his usual spot. Craig is not a big fan of rain racing but he raced anyway and that is something to be commended for.
Tanner #199

Saturday - Dry, low temperatures, 4 degrees
Amateur Heavyweight - 7th out of a field of 21 with a best time of 1:26.99
Amateur Middleweight - 6th of of a field of 22 with a best time of 1:23.96
Middleweight Superbike - 9th out of a field of 16 with a best time of 1:24.45
Sunday - Rain, low temperature, 6 degrees
Amateur Heavyweight - 3rd out of a field of 17 with a best time of 1:45.46 (rain)
Amateur Middleweight - 2th of of a field of 17 with a best time of 1:41.85 (rain)
Tanner ran some very good races and got his best time of the season hitting the 1:23's on cold tires, very impressive indeed. Tanner loves the rain! He logged his best finnishes of the year in the rain finishing 3rd in the heavyweight and 2nd in the middleweight race on Sunday. Oveerall a very good weekend for Tanner. Look for Tanner to be chasing Craig next season.
Richard #4

Saturday - Dry, low temperatures, 4 degrees
Amateur Heavyweight - 18th out of a field of 21 with a best time of 1:29.88
Amateur Middleweight - 13th out of a field of 22 with a best time of 1:28.23
Richard does not like the cold nor the rain. He's a self proclaimed fair weather racer and the times and finishes on the weekend prove that point. Running Pirelli's for the first time were interesting, the track got smoother but it didn't help his times this round. Maybe next year as he's got some fast teammates to chase.
Kevin #33
Saturday - Dry, low temperatures, 4 degrees
Novice - 5th out of a field of 6 with a best time of 1:37.70
Novice - 5th out of a field of 6 with a best time of 1:35.76
Kevin got some more seat time on Saturday racing both Novice races and improving on his times of last round. Even in the cold, Kevin managed to post his best time of the year getting into the 1:35's. With some more practice and a round or two next year, Kevin should be ready to make the move to Amateur.

Craig #60

Amateur Heavyweight - 3rd out of a field of 25 with a best time of 1:23.22
Amateur Middleweight - 3rd out of a field of 24 with a best time of 1:22.67
Middleweight Superbike - 9th out of a field of 16 with a best time of 1:22.29
With two podium finishes and the best personal times of the season, Craig continued his charge to the front of the pack! Craig was involved in some very tight and exciting races but kept his cool even when during the Amateur Heavyweight race, his visor fogged leaving him mostly unable to see. Craig's smooth methodical approach to racing seems to work for him as he continues to run the quietest bike on the racetrack near the front of the pack!
Tanner #199
Amateur Heavyweight - 10th out of a field of 25 with a best time of 1:26.02
Amateur Middleweight - 6th of of a field of 24 with a best time of 1:25.13
Middleweight Superbike - 12th out of a field of 17 with a best time of 1:24.16
This weekend, Tanner continued to reduce his lap times and his 6th place finish in the Amateur Middleweight was most impressive. He also gave some of the more senior riders a real run in the Middleweight Superbike race with some very close exciting racing. Tanner has shown some real determination and skill in his first year of racing!
Richard #4

Amateur Heavyweight - 17th out of a field of 25 with a best time of 1:27.99
Amateur Middleweight - 17th out of a field of 24 with a best time of 1:29.74
Richard couldn't find his mojo this weekend. He seemed to fight with his Honda and just couldn't seem to get into a groove. Although he had a lot of fun and did not experience any pucker moments, the results aren't what he was looking for. Look for a renewed deturmination in rounds 5 & 6 in September.
Kevin #33
Novice - 7th out of a field of 7 with a best time of 1:40.48
Novice - 8th out of a field of 8 with a best time of 1:40.81
Kevin Peters is the newest member of Redline Racing, filling in for Ryan who is out with a broken collar bone. He is a great addition to the team and other than a track night earlier this week, this weekend was his first on track look at Race City's road course. He competed in two races and ran times typical of most new racers. He got through the weekend without incident and even recovered from a couple of nasty tank slappers. As with most bikes at Race City, a steering dampener will be a required upgrade to his bike before the next round. With a little more time on the track, he should be able to pick up his times for rounds 5 & 6 in September.

Craig #60

Amateur Heavyweight - 4th out of a field of 18 with a best time of 1:24.43
Amateur Middleweight - 3rd out of a field of 20 with a best time of 1:23.17
Middleweight Superbike - 7th out of a field of 17 with a best time of 1:24.23
Craig ran well all weekend and put in some great times even with the switch back to Bridgestones after running Pirellis for the National weekend showing that he can adapt quickly to changes in ride feel. Considering that in the Heavyweight race, we run our 600cc bikes against 1000cc bikes, Craig did an amazing job finishing in 4th place. Craig is leading the way for Redline Racing to run at the front of the pack!
Tanner #199
Amateur Heavyweight - 10th out of a field of 18 with a best time of 1:26.21
Amateur Middleweight - 8th of of a field of 20 with a best time of 1:25.26
Tanner is the big surprise this year, consistantly and safely chopping seconds of his average lap times while working his way through the field of riders. His biggest expense in his first year of racing? Maybe knee pucks!
Richard #4

Amateur Heavyweight - 12th out of a field of 18 with a best time of 1:27.9921
Amateur Middleweight - 17th out of a field of 20 with a best time of 1:28.93
Senior Open - 10th out of a field of 12 with a best time of 1:26.42
Richard had an interesting weekend while posting his best time of the year. During the Amature Middleweight he blew the bus stop section twice which is something he has never done before. It seems a lack of focus was to blame. "Hmmm, I'm pretty hungry, I wonder what I'll have for supper tonight.... ooops, missed the turn in", daydreaming while racing is not a good idea. Focus is the goal for round 4.
Ryan #20- Out for the season with a broken colorbone
While practising on July 13th, Ryan crashed in turn two at Race City he suffered a compound collar bone break that featured something called a "green stick break" that will probably have him out of riding gear for the rest of the season. As fun as racing is.... it is serious business and has it's hazzards. Ryan will continue to be a part of Redline Racing as our one armed pit crew. ;)

Canadian Nationals - Two Redline Riders competed in rounds 2 & 3 of the Canadian Superbike series held in Calgary.
Craig
Amateur Race 1 - 13th out of a field of 19 (1:23.76)
Amateur Race 2 - 13th out of a field of 20 (1:23.69)
Tanner
Amateur Race 1 - 15th out of a field of 19 (1:27.74)
Amateur Race 2 - 16th out of a field of 20 (1:27.09)
A great experience for both Craig and Tanner. Good, fast competition from riders accross Canada and running for the first time on Pirelli tires, both Craig and Tanner put in some fast times and represented Redline Racing with class!

An exciting weekend for the Redline Crew
Ryan had two clean finishes in the Novice class and showed improvement over the first round but is still stuggling with his need for speed. He's at a disavantage riding the SV but with a little more track time and hard work, he should be able to bring his times down and get some better finishes.

Tanner knocked it out of the park again this round with two very very good finishes. He adapted very quickly to the increased competition in the Amateur class and showed that he can ride with racers that have more experience than he and come out on top while racing safely and cleanly. Tanner battled with Richard for two or three laps in the Heavyweight race and came beat him to the checkered flag in a very entertaining race. We'll see what he has up his sleeve for Round Three.

Craig had a mixed weekend, a crash, an impressive 3rd place finish and a DNF. In the Heavyweight race, Craig was running third and had a good lead over the fourth place rider when he had a moment and ended up in the swamp at the exit of the chicane. He ran fast times all weekend in the 1:23's and his 3rd place finsh in the Middleweight race is very impresive. Unfortunately, a few misplaced fasteners forced him to leave the Superbike race early. Hopefully he'll have some better luck in Round Three.

Richard had a great weekend of close racing. No incidents and some finishes he was very happy with in addition to recording his best ever time of 1:26.44, he had some fun dicing it up with Tanner in the Heavyweight race.

Richard video taped a couple of the races and they are posted on YouTube at

Overall a good warmup weekend for the Redline crew. Ryan experienced a crash and came out unscathed, Tanner pulled off some very surprising times and some daring passes, Craig worked on a brand new suspension setup and sorted out his stuff after a crash filled final round last year and Richard just went out and had some fun, shook the cobwebs out and worked on lines . Look for Redline to come out strong for Round 2 in June!

After an exciting 2009 season with one of the largest teams at Calgary's Race City track, Redline Racing will trim down a little and field a team of 4 riders. Craig Hubley and Richard Brown are back for the 2010 season and we have added Ryan Lehbauer and Tanner Wilcocks to the team. Redline's philosophy is to pickup a new rider or two every year and help them get into racing, show them the ropes and then send them out to "pass it forward" the next year. Last year we did it with 3 new riders which was a bit much so this year we are going with a team of 4, two experienced riders and 2 new riders.

Craig #60, 2007 Honda CBR600rr Richard #4, 2007 Honda CBR600rr
Ryan will be riding a 2006 Suzuki SV650 and Tanner will be on a 2006 R6. Both have never raced before but they are keen and my bet is that you can look for them at the front of the Novice pack early in the season. Ryan did a few track days last year on a big Triumph Daytona 955i so he will have to get used to working a little harder on the SV to get the same times and Tanner ran his first track day ever in April this year and he looked very good. They both have the CMRA school to get through on the 8th of May to get their race license and a few more laps under their belt before the first race weekend on the 22nd and 23rd of May.
Craig is in the process of rebuilding his bike after a crash filled final weekend last year. He has invested in some nice upgrades that include Ohlins suspension front and rear which should help with the bumpy Race City track. He is also opting to go with a softer compound Bridgstone tire than he ran last year in hopes that he can trim down the times.
Richard is going with the softer Bridgestone compounds as well and making a minor change up front with a Racetech setup and he's also trying out a new Quickshifter from Dynojet.
All of the aftermarket parts that Redline Racing uses are available from Redline Motorsports - we ride what we sell!
