Of course a helmet that is Snell / BSI / ECE and/or DOT rated is required - I always wear mine, even in Montana where they don’t seem to understand the relationship between the brain and the rest of the body. I like to stay with a quality brand of helmet, yes all full face brands should provide the minimum protection but the premium brands usually will provide that protection at a lighter weight, produce less noise and offer better ventilation - and usually fit better.
I’ve used AGV, Arai, Shark and Scorpion. AGV and Shark were quiet and light, the Arai fit nice, was light but was noisy and the Scorpion was noisy but had the best ventilation and was impossible to fog up - their anti fog shield is the best at any price. My advice, buy the helmet that fits, try them all on and as long as you stick with AGV, Arai, Shark, Suomy, Shoei, Icon, HJC, Joe Rocket and even Scorpion, you can’t go wrong.
We stock AGV, Shoei, Icon and Joe Rocket in every size available so we can fit you properly. We now also have the AGV modular and halfy helmets. (we also carry, Arai, Suomy, HJC, Fulmer but just don't stock many)

Getting the proper fit in a helmet is very, very important. We made a short video on the subject that you might find helpful.
